Epic Cosmos is a secure, large-scale clinical research platform that brings together longitudinal de-identified electronic health record data from hundreds of healthcare organizations into a single, searchable resource. It includes comprehensive inpatient and outpatient data spanning more than 300 million patients, including diagnoses, medications, laboratory results, and specialty-specific information, enabling clinicians and researchers to efficiently explore clinical questions using diverse and representative healthcare data.
The Cosmos Datathon is designed to help researchers discover how Cosmos can support every stage of the research process, from generating new research questions to exploring existing hypotheses with real-world data. Whether you are new to research analytics or an experienced investigator, the event will provide practical, hands-on opportunities to learn the capabilities of the platform and identify how it can be incorporated into your own research.
Participants will gain guided experience using SlicerDicer for Cosmos and related Cosmos analytics tools with support from Epic and the University of Chicago and UCM Cosmos teams. The event will also include demonstrations and presentations covering more advanced research workflows, including use of the Data Science Virtual Machine (DSVM) to identify and access datasets and perform analyses using SQL, R, Python, and other data science tools.
